DivorceAbility

"When it comes to divorce, I’m reminded of the kids’ classic story Going on a Bear Hunt: You can’t go over it; you can’t go under it…you’ve got to go through it.

Much like embarking on a long-haul flight you arrive at the gate knowing it’s going to be an endurance test, you board, find your seat, clip in and you’re on your way. There’ll be a crying baby. There’ll be turbulence. But eventually, if you keep your seatbelt on and tray table in an upright position, the plane will eventually land.

I promise.

For now, life may feel like a swirling mess of legal, emotional and financial issues laced with grief, anger and shock. And maybe a little relief in there too. It’s not easy having to interact with the one person you may be feeling most upset around right now.

But you don’t have to tackle everything at once, even if it feels that way.

As a family mediator and divorce coach, I’ve sat across from people at many stages of separation. They come through the door with their heads spinning, thrust into a situation they really don’t want to be in. Life feels like a mess.

This is the information I most would like clients to have in their mind from the get-go with a focus on co-parenting, property division and your wellbeing. It is not legal or psychological advice but a steady hand through a taxing process.

You don’t need to read it cover to cover. Feel free to dip in according to topic or return to sections, or go straight through.

You got this xx"
